As of December 31st, 2023, the State of Florida and the Canaveral Port Authority have adopted and are enforcing the Florida Fire Prevention Code 8th edition (2023), the Florida Building Code 8th Edition (2023), and the 2020 National Electrical Code. All permit applications/construction documents received after this date must comply with these codes. The provisions of the Florida Building Code apply to the construction, erection, alteration, modification, repair, equipment, use, and occupancy of every public and private building, structure, facility, or floating residential structure, and their appurtenances. Additions, alterations, repairs, and changes of use or occupancy group in all buildings must also comply with the Florida Building Code, Existing Building.
Anyone planning to construct, alter, repair, move, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building, or work on any impact-resistant coverings, electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing systems, must first apply for a permit from the building official. The CPA offers online permitting through Citizenserve, where you can apply, upload documents, check status, pay fees, and schedule inspections.
