The cruise industry is “coming back and coming back strongly” stated Port Canaveral CEO Capt. John Murray at the January meeting of the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners. Through November 2021, Port Canaveral had 121 ship calls with over 458,000 multi-day passengers. And the outlook for 2022 looks bright.

To get the new year underway, Port Canaveral had its first 6-ship day on January 2nd, the first time six cruise ships have been in port simultaneously since Aug. 19, 2019. This month, we welcomed home Carnival’s Liberty, which set sail on January 24th from its new home at Cruise Terminal 3, offering 3-day and 4-day itineraries to the Bahamas. The return of the Carnival Liberty brings the total number of ships to 11, which is a new record for homeported ships at Port Canaveral.

Royal Caribbean has announced their newest ship, Wonder of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world, will offer 7-day cruises from its homeport in Canaveral starting later this year. We are thrilled to welcome this Oasis-class ship to our Port when she arrives in November.

While the Conditional Sail Order issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) expired on January 15th, the CDC now offers a voluntary program for all cruise lines. All of our cruise partners remain committed to the health and safety of their passengers and crewmembers and continue to utilize their safety protocols. We look forward to a continued recovery of the industry!
